Abigail Conway (Subject to Change)
//RIDE (Motorcycle piece)
In Residence, 16th – 25th August.
Come on a journey with Abigail and company into the unknown, over the horizon, through the streets of Edinburgh whilst riding on the back of a motorcycle.
Ride is a short, site specific, one on one, performance, where audiences experience an audio track through their helmet whilst riding pillion on a motorcycle.
Ride is for those with the courage to take a risk. Ride is about running away, or towards, something different, something new, unknown and unexpected. Ride is for those who can put their trust in and relinquish control to another. Ride is a journey about intimacy and freedom.
Motorbikes are embedded in the cultural psyche of many countries, whether it be the Triumph in England, Harley Davison in USA, Honda in Japan or the Vesper in Italy. Motorcycles conjure up universal images of freedom, excitement and liberation. Such images are enhanced by risk factors associated with motorcycle riding.
Riding a motorbike is the perfect backdrop to entering an unknown zone where excitement, anticipation and danger combine to spawn new memories and experiences, experiences where performer and audiences become physically inter-dependant on each other.
Abigail is looking to develop Ride into a large scale performance where she will work with local biker groups from the community and collaborate with them on each new site. She will invite these local groups of experienced riders to be part of a special convoy to take audiences out on mass.
