January 2014 News

24th December 2013

Happy New Year from all at Out of the Blue. Start the new year the way you aim to continue with an early visit to the conviviality of the OOTB Drill Hall. A very special New Year’s Day Wiff Waff promises friendship first, competition second whilst combining music, great food and drink from the Drill Hall Arts Cafe. In a new initiative called Freeze Frame (10th), the creative cafe team are showing the Billy Wilder film classic The Apartment, and serving a special delicious pre film dinner, prepared by a top guest chef.

The OOTB Drill Hall offer a very warm new year welcome to new Bruncheon programmer William Douglas. William has a cracking January 11th line-up for us to delight fans of Lou Reed, and introduce his music to those who are unfamiliar with these amazing songs. To complement, the cafe will be serving up New York diner classics, strong coffee and oven-fresh cakes and bakes.

Between the 13th and 18th the OOTB Drill Hall hosts Not Afraid to Look, an exhibition to honour Tom Hurdall and activist Rachel Corrie who were both killed in Gaza. Two emerging young photographers Mahmoud (Ezz) Al Zanoun, and Hassan Rabie, respond to Tom’s photographs by live link-up on 18th January (3pm – 5pm)

Finally, send out the old and bring in the new with the infamous rummage fest of the Flea Market (28th December and 25th January). Stalls full to bursting with clothes, jewellery, small furniture, music, books, bric-a-brac and so much more. Treat yourself to delicious coffee and cake at the Drill Hall Arts Cafe. The cafe is closed until 10am Monday 6th January (except for Flea Market on 28th December and Wiff Waff on 1st January).

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
