What happens inside a theatre when nothing is happening?
In Place of a Show is a series of new lecture-works by performance artist and writer Augusto Corrieri.
Through a playful combination of photographs, first-person narratives, and historical research, In Place of a Show investigates theatrical spaces that have been stripped of their primary purpose: theatres currently lying empty, preserved as museums, or demolished.
For Forest Fringe, Corrieri will present a 40 minute lecture piece on London’s Dalston Theatre, a Victorian building demolished in 2007 to make way for a large shopping and residential complex, as part of the area’s ongoing regeneration: how could we access this lost theatre? Might its invisible shapes and structures still be lingering on the site, in the air, in the new Starbucks, in the residential gyms?
In Place of a Show is supported by Performance Matters and Pépinière Artistique Daviers.
