Nick Field
I Show You A Mirror & Be My Friend
I Show You A Mirror
17th August – 19th August 2015 – 4pm
An exploration of subculture, bodies and language; how they meet, how they dislocate. How they struggle to be something, to communicate something, to hold something together. Nick tries to remember how to vogue, creating a spontaneous scrambling of moves and stories based on memories from the world-changing mainstream appropriation of a dance form that was once the coded physical language of a buried subculture. There will be a microphone, there will be a fabulous costume. There will be a sound system with a mix of relentless voguing anthems. The rest, gurl, is of the moment. It could be amazing, it could be ridiculous, it could be fierce, it could be funny; it could be all of them. I Show You a Mirror reflects the predatory relationship between subcultures and the mainstream, and the personal implications, to ask questions about language, ownership and cultural expression, and how bodies fit in with all of that.
Be My Friend
21-27 August – 1pm-8pm, slots every 1 1/2 hours
Slots on 21st, 24th & 26th will be available for booking at the box office.
A one to one performance that explores the negotiations and complications of friendship in a world of fractured selves. Nick would like to be friends.Would you? Choose something at the festival to see together, and Nick’s outfit for the occasion, and find out. There will be a shared experience, an exchange of stories, and a moment that makes or breaks. Be My Friend is a bargaining between strangers towards becoming something else, where the rules are made up as we go. Discover why we pick the friends we do, and what that says about us, and maybe make a new one.
