The LeithLate16 line-up each day is as follows:
Thursday 23rd June 6-10pm:
The Thursday night of LeithLate16 sees the return of the huge one-night event that takes place across a host of different venues on and around Leith Walk. This year, we have 50+ artists participating across 20+ spaces during the course of opening night, full details of which are below. This massive artcrawl is followed by the now-legendary LeithLate16 Afterparty from 9pm at The Hibernian Supporter’s Club with live performances with Nice Church and Carbs (Jonnie Common and Jamie Scott) and tunes from She-Bang Rave Unit, tickets available from www.wegottickets.com . All featured exhibitions continue throughout the rest of the LeithLate16 festival.
Friday 24th June 12-6pm:
On Friday, we have a series of special panel talks taking place at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall, tackling global issues of particular relevance to Leith. There will be three sessions covering the following topics: Gentrification in Leith, The Politics of Public Art, and The Value of Art and Artists. Special guest panel speakers include: Tim Brinkhurst (Young Fathers manager), Stacey Hunter (creative producer), Fraser Gray (fine/street artist), Emily Gray (Civic Room project manager and curator), Alistair Gentry (artist and writer) and Laura Docherty (Cultural Benefits project).
Saturday 25th June 12-6pm:
Saturday sees the return of our overwhelmingly popular Mural Tours from LeithLate15, which visit a selection of some of Leith’s historic and contemporary murals, with appearances from some of the mural artists themselves along the way to talk about their work.
Sunday 26th June 12-6pm:
The last day of LeithLate16 and a final chance to see our bespoke exhibitions, plus special event, the LeithLate16 Art Mart, taking place at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall. The Art Mart is a cross between a cabinet of artistic curiosities and an art show, featuring The Department of Lost and Found, The Thermos Museum and Penniless & Obscure zine. Followed by the LeithLate16 Closing Party at Pilrig Church from 7pm with live music and spoken word, in association with The Grind Journal (http://the-grind.co.uk/). All profits from the Closing Party go to Amnesty International.
LeithLate16 artist commission
LeithLate has made its first artist commission this year, asking artist Rabiya Choudhry to create a LeithLate banknote, which will be mass produced and given away for free during LeithLate16. The currency will be printed at Out of the Blue’s new riso print Out of the Blueprint, run by young people’s initiative #artcore. Rabiya will also be conducting a workshop with some of #artcore’s young people to come up with their own forms of currency prior to the festival, which will be displayed along with Rabiya’s work for the project at Out of the Blue during LeithLate16.
