Monday 30th May 2022
Out of the Blue Abbeymount Studios is a significant centre for making, creating and design, located at the top of Easter Road. On Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June, we’re opening our doors to the public for our first in-person Open Studios event since November 2019. Over 30 resident artists and makers will be taking part, with studio tours, workshops, and art and craft demonstrations.
At the Drill Hall, fax technology meets riso printing in a new body of work created during Sarah Phelan’s time as artist-in-residence at Out of the Blueprint. A Public Fax Forum is open until Saturday 11th June.
Out of the Blue have been partnering in theatre and arts projects with Active Inquiry for many a year. As part of this year’s Leith Festival, Active Inquiry presents The Boundary, exploring the amalgamation of Leith into Edinburgh in 1920. Planned for 2020, delivered in 2022. Apologies for the delay and note this show may contain traces of material on trams and independence!
For many years the Out of the Blue Drill Hall has showcased the work of Edinburgh College HND and BA photography students. Exposed 22 is one of Scotland’s must-see photographic exhibitions. A variety of photographic styles and genres, with over 80 images, will be exhibited from Wednesday 1st to Thursday 9th June.
To celebrate the Summer Solstice on Tuesday 21st of June, a group of artists will inhabit the main space of the Out of the Blue Drill Hall to present Marseille Morning. The exhibition will also feature a late evening opening event as part of this year’s LeithLate programme on Friday 24th June from 5 – 9pm, with refreshments from the Out of the Blue cafe/bar.
