September News
Wednesday 31st August 2022
Since 2004 Out of the Blue’s headquarters has been the Out of the Blue Drill Hall, a building of considerable historical and cultural significance to the Leith community. Following Out of the Blue’s 2015 ‘Gretna 100’ project, which marked the centenary of the Gretna rail tragedy and its impact on the Leith community, the Out of the Blue Drill Hall was regraded from ‘B’ to ‘A’ listed status.
Careful, sustainable restoration and regeneration have transformed this former military building into a participatory and inclusive art and cultural centre, with artists’ studios, rehearsal and performance areas, exhibition spaces and a well-reviewed café. Take the behind the scenes tour and find out more at the Doors Open Day on Saturday 24th September.
One of Out of the Blue’s latest initiatives is the creation of a significant craft hub at Abbeymount Studios, Easter Road. This provides working space for 80+ artists and collectives, plus space for classes and projects for the local community. Many of the artists from Abbeymount Studios have combined their efforts for a group exhibition from Tuesday 13th September to Friday 23rd September. Eye to Eye will feature an impressive mix of painting, print, illustration, fashion, textiles and sculpture.
September sees the return of many classes, workshops, exhibitions and events all supported by the much acclaimed Drill Hall cafe!
Thank you for your support.
