Out of the Blue turns 30!
Springing from nowhere (hence the name!) into a small gallery space in the centre of Edinburgh in 1994, Out of the Blue now enlivens and animates six buildings across the city, including the legendary Drill Hall in Leith and the iconic Bongo Club in the city centre. Since 1994, over two million people have come through our doors to work, create, exhibit, perform, eat, drink, dance, teach and learn.
We’ve created a special webpage which tells you a bit more about our rich and varied history, the projects we’ve run and supported and details of upcoming events that you can get involved in and help us celebrate!
What’s on in May
In the meantime, we’ve another busy programme of workshops, exhibitions and events to keep you entertained.
Out of the Blueprint are hosting Flowers from Jericho, a new exhibition at the Drill Hall of riso prints created by Matilda Bull during her residency in Spring 2024. It’s on from Saturday 4th May to Sunday 30th June.
Also at the Drill Hall, resident artist Felicity Inkpen will be presenting her Mutual Fascination exhibition – a collection of her work from the past decade. It’s on from Monday 13th to Saturday 18th May.
Our May Flea Market takes place on Saturday 25th May. With over 45 stalls packed with clothes, jewellery, books, antiques and other collectibles, it’s the perfect place to find some bargains.
As always, the Drill Hall Café will be open throughout May, serving locally sourced and seasonal produce, with wonderful baked goods, all made in-house!
The residents at Out of the Blue Abbeymount Studios are also busy preparing for their Spring Open Studios Weekend. Running on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June it’s a chance to take a sneak peek inside our working studios (and buy some unique gifts).
As always, thank you for your support. In the meantime, click here to find out more about what’s coming up.
Here’s to the next 30 years!
