What’s On This Month

From markets and film screenings to exhibitions and open studios, there’s lots going on at Out of the Blue in November.

Out of the Blueprint are hosting I am a Rock: Kathleen and other island stories by Onion Press, a collaboration between locally based comic artists Sarah Lippet and Maria Stoian, which explores island life through a series of publications. It launches at the Drill Hall in November, and the exhibition runs from Friday 1st to Saturday 30th November. We have another three exhibitions coming up at the Drill Hall in November – just take a look at our Exhibitions page to find out more.

If you’re looking for some bargains, we’ve got two markets taking place at the Drill Hall in November. First up there’s the 100% Extra Flea on Saturday 2nd November, with over 45 stalls packed with pre-loved clothes, jewellery, books and other collectibles. Then, our November Flea Market takes place on Saturday 30th November – our last flea market before Christmas!

For all the horror movie fans, dig out your parkas and snow goggles for a special Halloween week screening of the spine chilling classic The Thing (1982). Join us on Sunday 3rd November for a film-inspired 2-course meal in the Drill Hall Cafe, or just come and watch the film!

Also in November, the Edinburgh Comic Art Fair (ECAF) returns one again to the Drill Hall. The sixth edition co-ordinated by Out of the Blueprint showcases the best of the Scottish comic scene, with even more stalls and workshops this year. This free event takes place on Saturday 23rd November.

The artists and makers at Out of the Blue Abbeymount Studios are busy preparing for their Winter Open Studios on Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December. It’s a great chance for you to come along and meet our resident artists and maybe pick up some early Christmas presents. Everything is handmade at the studios.

As always, the Drill Hall Cafe will be open throughout November, serving locally sourced seasonal produce and wonderful baked goods, all made in-house (including our Drill Hall Cafe Preserves which you can buy to take home with you).

In the meantime find out more about what’s coming up in November.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
