What’s On This Month

We’ve got a busy programme coming up at the Drill Hall this February.

Kicking off the month on Saturday 1st February is the Chinese Lunar New Year Market. Hosted by Out of the Blue Abbeymount Studios artists HelloArt, it’s a celebration of tradition, culture, and community.

From Friday 7th February to Saturday 12th April, Out of the Blueprint artist-in-residence Maddie Lennon is hosting a new exhibition, Tic Tac Toe. During her residency, Maddie has been using publication and poster design to explore notions of play – themes developed in the exhibition.

To celebrate Valentine’s weekend, Freeze Frame will be hosting a special screening of Australian comedy Muriel’s Wedding. Join us on Sunday 16th February for a film-inspired 2-course meal in the Drill Hall Cafe, or just come and watch the film!

For bargain hunters, our monthly Flea Market returns on Saturday 22nd February. Come and browse over 45 stalls packed with pre-loved clothes, jewellery and collectibles.

As always, the Drill Hall Cafe will be open throughout February, serving seasonal and locally sourced produce, all made in-house (including our Drill Hall Cafe Preserves which you can buy to take home with you).

We’re Hiring

We’re currently recruiting for a part-time Buildings Manager, primarily based at the Drill Hall. Working 30 hours a week on a job-share basis, they’ll be the operational point of contact between OOTB and studioholders, hirers and contractors. The deadline to apply is 10am on Thursday 6th February. More information can be found on our website.

Celebrating 30 Years of Out of the Blue

As part of our celebrations, we asked several members of our community “what’s good about Out of the Blue”. This month we hear from Paul Dobie who has performed with Active Inquiry here at the Drill Hall for the past 3 years. You can watch his video here.

Stay tuned to our social media as we bring you more over the coming months! In the meantime find out more about what’s coming up in February.

  • Donate

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
