Free creative workshops to provide Wee Breaks for carers
This Autumn Out of the Blue are working in partnership with VOCAL (Voice of Carers Across Lothian) to offer free creative workshops for unpaid carers. The workshops aim to provide people an opportunity to take time away from their caring role, try something new and connect with others.
Working with a range of partners based in the Out of the Blue Drill Hall and Abbeymount Studios, the programme includes workshops on aerial dance, pottery, dressmaking, jewellery, eco printing and drama.
The programme is funded as part of the Scottish Government’s Community Health and Wellbeing Funding supporting improved mental health across society as we recover from the effects of the pandemic.
Project manager Johnny Gailey says: “We see the value of the arts in people’s lives every day. Out of the Blue welcomes over 500 people a week – of all ages and abilities – to participate in our community arts activities. It’s great to be able to offer a new programme specifically for unpaid carers to take time out of their busy lives caring for others, meet new people, and have a chance to do something creative, purely for themselves.”
The free 6-week programme starts in the week beginning 24th October. Full details of the programme are available to view here.
If you are interested in attending one of the workshops you can find out more and apply for a place by visiting VOCAL’s Wee Breaks website weebreaks.com and completing the online registration form for the workshop of your choice. https://weebreaks.com/events/category/all-events
