Andy McFetters: A Life in Stone
Friday 15th & Saturday 16th April 2022
See opening times below. Free entry
This exhibition is to mark what would have been Andy’s 55th birthday. A talented sculptor and stone carver, he passed away suddenly last year.
Andy began working for a Stonemason’s Company to learn the trade, and was able to followed his interests in history and sculpture as a self employed sculptor and carver.
Over the decades he worked on commissions from large organisations, community groups, architects, as well as individually designed plaques, memorials and commissioned sculpture.
He taught sculpture and carving classes, traditional building techniques, demonstrations, and undertook conservation work. He made replica stone tools and artefacts, from polished stone axes to rotary querns for museums. He had a personal interest in rock art. This and the natural world inspired his work.
This exhibition brings together a variety of his work – some inspired by Pictish and Prehistoric rock art, letter cutting, and figurative work, and some reproduction prehistoric artefacts. Some pieces will be for sale.
We hope you can join us for this short tribute to a unique man.
The exhibition will be open from 10am-5pm on Friday 15th April and 10am-3pm on Saturday 16th April.
All are welcome at the Opening Night on Friday 15th April from 5-7pm.
