April News
Friday 1st April 2022
Throughout our history Out of the Blue has initiated a significant number of social enterprises and cultural projects which connect together and make the sum of our impact greater than the individual parts. These include the Bongo Club, the Out of the Blue Drill Hall cafe, Out of the Blueprint and Abbeymount Studios. All of the above are currently adapting and thriving, and looking at significant new developments.
For Abbeymount Studios, the agreement in principle of a 75 year lease from the City of Edinburgh Council will enable us to plan the refurbishment of an important local landmark Category B listed building. Coming some 20 years on from our purchase and refurbishment of the now Category A listed Drill Hall, this is a new intervention to help preserve Edinburgh heritage and develop much needed space for creative activity.
Edinburgh’s built environment features in Out of the Blueprint’s resident artist Gemma Gorton’s new body of work created during her time in the riso studio, and now exhibited at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall (until 23rd April). Capturing the changing colours of her Edinburgh home, Gemma’s work gives a glimpse of a quiet city of street scenes, public parks and under-explored nooks through dawn, dusk and twilight. A Time and a Place provides a window into this young artist’s perspective and presents a very particular time and a very particular place.
Thank you for your support.
