I’m fascinated by the physicality and spirit of a body and it’s potential for pleasure, pain and expression. Idiosyncratic character is intrinsically important in my work but an anatomical, pulsing, critical view is also there. The image is an accurate representation but the close detail is an expressive pattern describing minute features. It’s a record of my examination of the subject and my relationship with them rather than a slavish copy of their every pore. I like using body paint and projectors to give my subjects something to interact with which often leads to an image which articulates the anatomy of the body or lets them be part of the process in deciding which pose or composition works best. It’s interesting to watch how people react with these tools and whether they use them self consciously or instinctively. The potential ambiguity and tension in the eye contact of a still image is something I find enormously compelling and I have tried to appeal for a reaction in the viewer. The quality of flesh, its contrasting textures and tensions, the density and potential of muscle and the irregularity and dimples in fatty tissue are important in the way I want to describe any given subject. I want the bodies I paint to be a strange mixture of lurid, glistening attraction and true empathic realism avoiding elegant cliches. They reflect private selves and acknowledge my inescapable role as a voyeur in observing and recreating them. A period of serious illness has detached my idea of personality from physicality – I want to paint the two back together again.

SkinnyMalinkyQuilts was founded in 2014 by award winning printmaker Lucy Engels. She creates luxury home ware that is known for it’s colourful sophistication and high quality. Every quilt is unique and original using only the best quality fabrics and wadding.  They are machine pieced and quilted, with each being finished by hand.

Stephanie designs and creates distinctive designer pieces of jewellery using traditional techniques in Sterling and Argentium Silver. Flora and geometric shapes are her inspiration. Stephanie likes to create different textures for her pieces. Touches of Gold; be it 18ct or 24ct Keum-Boo, Gem stones and cold enamel add a touch of colour. Each piece is unique and can be worn as an individual piece of jewellery or as part of a set.

Strollers Music School will teach you how to make music, not just play it. We believe that is is more important to help our students to fulfil their own personal goals, rather that just stick to a curriculum.

The school was started by Tomlin Leckie as an antidote to all the music teachers out there who are just keeping one step ahead of their students rather than truly knowing their stuff.

At Strollers all of our tutors are full-time musicians with years of experience teaching and excellent credentials.

We offer tuition in guitar, blues harmonica, piano, bass guitar and ukulele.

Suk-Wan Chan Designer is a womenswear brand created by Sophia Chan. Sophia began having a great interest in fashion and art from a very young age, which lead her to studying Art & Design in college before studying Fashion Design at Heriot-Watt University.

During the final year of her degree, she developed an interest with experimenting and mixing various methods of pattern cutting to create more sculptural and organic-like silhouettes.

Her designs focuses on mostly conceptual ideas inspired from various sources from philosophy to art as well as some inspirations from her Chinese heritage.

Her designs are perfect for anyone with a passion for classic, minimalist shapes and colours, with high quality finishes that are limited pieces and all made-upon-order in-house from her studio in Edinburgh.

Since starting up, the brand is now stocking at The Scottish Design Exchange as well as selling from Suk-Wan Chan Designer’s online shop and is continuously working on expanding into different online marketplaces such as Depop.

I have a long-held aesthetic interest in abstraction, ecology and modernism. My recent series of drawings and etchings are based upon native wildflowers found in my local urban environment. I see my work as subliminal messaging for nature at a time when it is so greatly overlooked.

With an intuitive drawing approach of observation and listening, I aim to capture the inner being and design of the plants, their unique character. I have an understanding of sacred geometry and often work with graph paper as a geometric foundation.

This is a slow, calm, quiet process I prefer to practice outdoors.

These drawings are my homage to natural phenomena, silent yet vital and often found hiding right under our noses. Like many species in our rapidly industrialised world, these small species come under great threat by encroaching development, habitat errosion and chemical pollutants. However, against the odds they persist, and I celebrate their tenacity to grow and bloom and play their part in our shared ecosystem.
