Providing space for Edinburgh and its people’s creative initiatives has long been Out of the Blue’s mission. We are now to be custodians of three significant Edinburgh listed buildings, run as creative space for work, enterprise and education. This is an exciting time to be involved with Out of the Blue’s development. If you would be interested in using your expertise to be part of Out of the Blue, then please have a look at how to Join our Board.
When Out of the Blue purchased the Drill Hall, our refurbishment plans were to keep ‘the integrity of the space’ in line with the building’s historical and architectural significance and listed status. Some twenty years on, Out of the Blue have been selected by the City of Edinburgh Council to develop the B listed Powderhall Stables as a hub of studios, workspaces and event spaces, linked to the current and planned local neighbourhood.
Additionally, Out of the Blue have been given the go ahead to continue our development of a significant centre for making, creating and design at Abbeymount Studios via a 75 year lease of the B listed building from the City of Edinburgh Council. On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of November, Abbeymount Open Studios offers the opportunity to see behind the scenes of our creative spaces, meet the makers and browse a wide range of original artworks and gifts. There will also be art/craft/animation demonstrations and workshops taking place over the two days.
December also offers the opportunity to visit the Out of the Blue Drill Hall for our legendary Christmas Arts Markets (3rd and 10th December) featuring artwork and crafts for sale direct from the artists. Over the two dates, more than 100 artists and makers will be selling their work, ranging from paintings, prints and photography through fashion, jewellery and textiles to ceramics, soft furnishings and design.
The licensed Drill Hall cafe will be open, serving delicious and wholesome meals, snacks and refreshments.
Thank you for your support.
