Edinburgh People

Tuesday 1st August to Wednesday 9th August 2017, Exhibition Launch - Monday 31st July 6-9pm
10am - 5pm Mon - Sat

On Monday 31 July 2017, the Out of the Blue Drill Hall will host a solo exhibition for the Edinburgh-based photographer Ryan Walls. (This coincides with the opening of the Edinburgh International Arts Festival 2017).

‘Edinburgh People’ is an exhibition of images taken by Walls over an 8-week period in 2015. It captures the cultures and stories of those passing through Edinburgh and residing within it. Walls describes Scotland’s capital, his home since birth, as two distinct cities: the one from September to July, and the city that comes to life and welcomes the world during the Edinburgh Festivals. Taking a unique vantagepoint and engaging with the passengers in his Black Taxi, Walls provides a reflection on the faces and stories that inhabit Edinburgh and the world that it attracts.

Ryan Walls was born in Edinburgh in 1975 and studied photography at Edinburgh University. He has driven taxis since 2009. This is his first solo exhibition.

Exhibition: Tuesday 1st August to Wednesday 9th August 2017
Reception for the artist and private view: Monday 31st July 6-9pm.

A catalogue will be published to coincide with the exhibition.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
