Local Hero (1983)

Cast Burt Lancaster, Peter Riegert, Fulton Mackay, Denis Lawson
Director Bill Forsyth I 1983 I UK | cert 12A | 1h 51m

In 1983 film reviewer Richard Barkley described Local Hero as a ‘magical brew of humour and enchantment…a film to be cherished for days…probably years’. It is now 40 years since the film was released and that review was written and we still are cherishing this gentle and quirky comedy. It’s the classic David vs Golatih tale of the ambitious Texas oil man descending on a sleepy Scottish coastal village with the view of purchasing the whole place for a song. But before he can land the deal of his career he’ll have to convince the locals and that is going to be trickier than he ever imagined!
