July 2018 News

Friday 29th June 2018

As Edinburgh awaits the waves of festival visitors, the Out of the Blue Drill Hall’s ‘open all year’ programme of events, exhibitions, rehearsals and classes, continues to offer something for everyone. A new Indie Book and Zine Fair on 21st July will feature sellers from Edinburgh and beyond. Discover new print publications and celebrate DIY creativity and tangible print. On 7th July, Out of the Blueprint’s Print Jam offers young people free demonstrations of risograph printing  – an affordable, eco-friendly print process with a unique aesthetic, throughout the day, along with opportunities to stretch those sketching skills. Drop in, get creative and print stuff!

Out of the Blueprint’s former artist in residence Lucy Grainge’s exhibition Cross Your Eyes and Dot Your T’s contains strong graphic images which visually represent dyslexia as a different way of brain processing (Monday – Saturday until 21st July).

Other Out of the Blue Drill Hall studio artists are also busy showcasing their skills and talents. Hatti Pattisson’s exhibition (11th – 14th July) features a fusion of highly textured and free flowing works all depicting her relationship with Scotland’s landscape and coastline.

Strange Town Summer Projects: Create a play in 5 days (Monday 2nd & 9th – Friday 6th & 13th July) sees young participants start with the spark of an idea and on Friday perform the play that has been created.

The Makers Marque is a brand new Drill Hall makers market with stalls, workshops, life drawing, demonstrations and children’s activities on 15th July.

Wiff Waff Wednesday (25th July) offers Ping Pong for all, with DJ’s and good music adding to the atmosphere alongside great food and drinks served up by the Drill Hall Arts Cafe.

The monthly Flea Market (30th June and 28th July) offers over 45 stalls full-to-bursting with clothes, jewellery, small furniture, music, books, bric-a-brac and much more.

OOTB studios at the Drill Hall and in various locations around Edinburgh offer artists space to produce work, exhibit and perform. We currently have a few studio spaces available and a few more will be coming available soon. Check our Rent a Studio page and join our studio mailing list to be kept up to date on opportunities as they arise.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
