July News

Thursday 2nd July 2020

Following guidance from the Scottish Government’s route map through and out of the crisis, Out of the Blue are working with our partners to ensure we continue to do all we can to support our staff, studio artists and the local community.

Out of the Blueprint is BACK in BUSINESS from the 7th July!
We’re dipping our toes back in the printing pool and preparing to get the presses rolling in the studio from Tuesday 7th July for all your risograph and gocco needs. We’re looking forward to seeing what you’ve all been making, and are excited to see lots of new comics from young people who’ve been creating over the last few months. We’re expecting to be busy so please do bear with us!

Out of the Blueprint will soon be launching our new Community Recovery Eco Print Service (CREPS) and offering free posters and flyers for not-for-profit community projects in Leith and North Edinburgh in partnership with Port of Leith Housing Association. Over the summer we hope to help over 120 local projects to get the message out about the recovery services they are offering to support the most vulnerable in our society. Find out more on our website.

Out of the Blue studio artists are adapting and returning to their cherished studios. Out of the Blue are supporting them with rent rebates and establishing an artists solidarity fund to help those hardest hit financially.

Our partnership with the SCRAN Academy to provide free healthy meals to people in need continues to grow. By utilising the Drill Hall Cafe kitchen for meal preparation we continue to enable food distribution to those in need in Leith.

COMING SOON! The Drill Hall cafe team are planning ahead, and we intend to adapt and reopen the OOTB cafe in August, if it is safe to do so. Benefiting from the large glass roofed drill hall atrium, we are confident that we can provide plenty of physical distance between customers.

If you are beginning to think about finding the right space for socially distanced classes, workshops or events, then investigate the potential of our airy spaces by visiting the space hire section of our website. Enquiry forms will be available soon.

We do appreciate that there are many people and organisations in dire need during these challenging times however we are asking all of our supporters to help us if they can, and in whatever way they can. So far we have raised over £5,000 from donations, which is now in the artists solidarity fund to enable us to help keep artists doing their thing. Thank you to all who have donated. Your support is appreciated and we are touched by the messages of support that have accompanied them.

We know that many of you will have nothing to spare, but if you can make a donation to support us, click here.

Thank you!

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
