June 2024
Saturday 1st June 2024
June sees the first of our special events to celebrate 30 years of Out of the Blue.
Kicking off our series of celebrations is our Spring Open Studios Weekend at Out of the Blue Abbeymount Studios on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June. With over 50 residents taking part it’s a great chance to meet our talented artists and makers and pick up some original artwork and gifts (all handmade in their studios).
Next up is the stunning photography exhibition, Exposed 24. Our largest exhibition of the year at the Drill Hall, it showcases the work of final year HND and BA photography students from Edinburgh College (many of whom are multi-award winners in national and international photography competitions). It’s on from Wednesday 5th to Thursday 13th June.
Following the success of last year’s near sell out performances of The Lobby, Active Inquiry’s Flashback Theatre Company are back at the Drill Hall with their latest production Made to Connect. Set in a world where robots take care of every human need, it runs from Thursday 20th to Saturday 22nd June.
Out of the Blueprint artist-in-resident Matilda Bull’s exhibition Flowers from Jericho is on at the Drill Hall until Saturday 29th June. Matilda will also be running a riso printing workshop on Saturday 15th June and will be hosting two Poster Fundraising Days on Saturdays 8th and 22nd June with proceeds going to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
If you’re looking for some summer bargains, the June Flea Market takes place on Saturday 29th June. With over 45 stalls packed with clothes, jewellery, books, antiques and other collectibles, it’s the perfect place to find some bargains.
As always, the Drill Hall Café will be open throughout June, serving locally sourced and summer produce, with wonderful baked goods, all made in-house!
As always, thank you for your support. In the meantime, take a look at what’s coming up.
