Makers Marque

Makers Marque is more than just a market for local traders and designers. It is a chance for people to get involved, learn a new skill and see the processes that usually take place behind closed studio doors. The event is a mix of local craftspeople demonstrating their skills and selling their unique products, plus artist and makers workshops, demonstrations and OPEN STUDIOS.

The magic of the magic loop with JK Kos

1pm – 3pm
Free Workshop
Demonstration and a practical session on using a magic loop technique in knitting. The attendees should be able to cast on, purl and knit. Max. 6 participants, please bring circular needles if you can (any size between 3.5mm- 5mm will do) and some yarn (dk, arran or worsted will work well). A few spares will be available.

Creative Hand Embroidery – make your own Christmas Ornaments with Richa Goel Connor 

12pm – 2pm & 3pm – 5pm
£15 pp
(parent(s) working together on the same project with their child are welcome to join for free)
In this Christmas special workshop, we will make beautiful hand embroidered Christmas ornaments. We will learn simple but effective hand embroidery techniques, this workshop is specially designed so that all ages and levels can enjoy and learn. Parent and children are welcome to create and learn together, working on their individual ornaments or making just the one as a joint project( works well for younger children). All levels are welcome and all materials are provided.

Make your own Lampshade with Spring Feathers

12pm – 2pm
20cm drum lampshade – cost £20
30cm drum Lampshade – cost £25
Come and learn the art of making a drum lampshade. At the end of the 2 hour session you will have a fine lampshade ready to pop on a base or hang from the ceiling. Maximum 6 attendees.

Drop in workshop but booking advised as only limited space is available.

Comic making Workshop with local comic artist and illustrator TSU

Interactive workshop for ages 8 through 13
1pm – 4pm  
Free workshop
Using a unique Random scenario generator learn the basics of comic creation from story telling, character design and panel layout to how to create and print out your own mini comics.
Pencils and paper supplied. All you have to bring is an enthusiasm for comics and your imagination.

    Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

    We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

    Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.
