November 2014 News

30th October 2014

Out of the Blue have consistently generated studio space to enable artists to work and make a living from their creative practice. We have also consistently generated teaching, rehearsal, exhibition, performance space and projects to enable participation in the arts to spread beyond the ‘usual suspects’. Our main base is the OOTB Drill Hall, but our involvement in generating creative space in Portobello is recognised and greatly valued. As is our sister venue, the Bongo Club’s contribution to Edinburgh’s artistic vitality. November at the Drill Hall offers a flavour of this range with a mix of music, film, visual art, classes, workshops and community events. OOTB based studio artist Haika Maeda exhibits intricate drawings (3rd – 11th), and Bruncheon (8th) features the Kitchen Stools plus William Douglas and other special guest performers.

As usual the Drill Hall Arts Café will accompany and complement the music with a delicious menu. The café also provides a key supporting act to Freeze Frame (21st), this month showing the classic ‘Some Like It Hot’. Enjoy a meal produced by a top guest chef or simply come for the film and light refreshment in a friendly environment. November also offers two great opportunities to rummage for trinkets and treasure at the ever popular Flea Market (1st and 29th).

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
