Adult Painting Workshops in Acrylics

New series of painting classes from Drill Hall artist Graeme Walker

This course is designed to enable, engage, excite and promote experiments in painting in acrylics AND to unlock artistic potential.

It has been planned to create a structured progression in knowledge and practical skills and attendance for the whole course is recommended. However attendance at individual classes is also possible.

The mantra for the classes follows Paul Klee’s maxim: “The purpose of art is not to copy the visible BUT…to make visible”.

Classes will explore

  • How to look at and analyse paintings by established masters of the art
  • How to use brushes, prepare paper and handle paint
  • Colour theory in relation to paint mixing
  • The importance of form and structure
  • Tonality
  • Applying washes, building layers and working wet in wet
  • Developing ideas

Maximum of eight students. Early booking advised. No previous experience is necessary.

Class dates and times

  • Thursdays, from 6th February to 13th March
  • 10.00am – 12.00pm
  • £30 per session

You can come to individual sessions, but the course is structured, so attendance of the full course is recommended.
