The Out of the Blue Drill Hall benefits from having a range of spaces which for many years have accommodated a huge variety of activity including aerial dance, youth theatre, seminars, talks, meetings and all manner of classes and events. We are now taking bookings in line with Scottish Government guidelines. You can view images and find out more about our lovely spaces via our Book a Space page.
We are supporting our studio based artists to return to their businesses and have a magnificent bright and airy, freshly renovated studio suite (2 connected rooms) in the historic front building of the Drill Hall to let.
Out of the Blueprint is in the process of designing and printing fabric face masks in collaboration with young designers and Drill Hall based artist Mairi Brown, available from the Out of the Drill Hall soon. For a sneak preview check their website here.
Since we started Out of the Blueprint 5 years ago, the studio has worked with over 200 young artists from across Scotland. To celebrate their birthday they’ve hand-picked 20 brilliant artists to collaborate on a joint exhibition in October and compendium of comics. ‘Walk Don’t Walk’ will be a vital and vibrant snapshot of contemporary Scottish creativity, but we need your help. By pre-ordering a book, you can help bring ‘Walk Don’t Walk’ to life!
We do appreciate that there are many people and organisations in dire need during these challenging times however we are asking all of our supporters to help us if they can, and in whatever way they can. So far we have raised over £5,000 from donations, which is now in the artists solidarity fund to enable us to help keep artists doing their thing. Thank you to all who have donated. Your support is appreciated and we are touched by the messages of support that have accompanied them.
We know that many of you will have nothing to spare, but if you can make a donation to support us, click here.
Thank you!

Out of the Blue Arts and Education Trust
Out of the Blue’s sister venue, The Bongo Club, will be 25 years old in 2021. At some point when it is safe to do so, the Bongo Club will reemerge to once more become an integral part of Edinburgh’s cultural landscape. The Bongo Club specialises in art and music, supporting local, national and international, emerging and established artists, through live music, film, theatre and clubs. As such, the Bongo Club continues to break the traditional mould for a nightclub and has been pushing the boundaries of the Edinburgh scene since 1996 as a nightclub, live venue and all-round artistic hub with a street-level-headed attitude and an international reputation.
Through the loyal support of the community, the Bongo Club occupies part of the cavernous spaces below the Edinburgh Central Library, on Cowgate. World class international talent performs throughout much of the year.
