What’s On This Month

This September, as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations we’re hosting HOME, an exciting new showcase of events by artists and makers who have their home-from-home here at the Drill Hall. Among the series of events will be an exhibition running from Tuesday 10th to Friday 20th September, including paintings, illustrative prints, photography, glasswork and jewellery. There’s an Exhibition Launch on Wednesday 11th September, then on Wednesday 18th September there’s a free Performers’ Showcase with music and drama from some of our studio artists.

Out of the Blueprint will hold one of their ever-popular Riso Workshops on Saturday 14th September. In this fun, creative session you’ll learn how to make your own 2-colour A3 risograph prints. If you haven’t caught it already, Out of the Blueprint artist-in-residence Jack Stamp’s exhibition of plasticine modelling and riso printing Plasticine Cowboy is on at the Drill Hall until Saturday 28th September.

Resident artist Felicity Inkpen is back at the Drill Hall with her new series of drawing workshops Drawing in the Autumn. You’ll be introduced to a variety of drawing techniques in a fun and pressure-free environment. The workshops run on Wednesdays from 4th September to 9th October.

The Drill Hall will once again be part of Doors Open Day. On Saturday 28th September, there are free hourly behind-the-scenes tours from 11am to 1pm, including visits to some of our artists in their studios. Our monthly Flea Market will also be on from 10am to 3pm.

Whether you are visiting us for an event, or looking for home-made refreshments in a welcoming and relaxing environment, the Drill Hall Cafe will be open throughout the month with a great selection of teas, coffees, and tasty seasonal treats.

Celebrating 30 Years of Out of the Blue

As part of our celebrations, we asked several members of our community “what’s good about Out of the Blue”. This month we hear from Drill Hall Cafe stalwart Jordan, (aka the cappuccino king!) You can watch his video here.

Stay tuned to our social media as we bring you more over the coming months! In the meantime visit our What’s On page to find out more about what’s coming up in September.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
