What are we wearing? Children’s Workshop

Friday 18th & Saturday 19th February 2022
Friday 1.30 - 4.30pm & Saturday 1.30 - 5.30pm

£10 for the two sessions.

In partnership with Crafts Council UK’s Make! Craft! Live!

Join us on a journey to explore where our clothes come from! Equipped with new skills, you’ll transform discarded clothing into imaginative new wearables. For ages 6 and up.

What happens during the workshop?

  • We will begin to explore garment labels, materials, and create mapped journeys of our clothing, imagining the route the fibres have taken from first being spun into yarn, turned into fabric, then cut, sewn and sold.
  • We’ll dismantle old clothes and figure out what shapes, techniques and materials have been used in their construction and by hand sewing, we will re-construct these cloth puzzle pieces into a piece of wearable creativity.
  • The workshop will conclude with a ‘show and tell’ – exhibition for friends and family, of what was found, what was created and what will be done next!

What you need to bring with you:

  • Old clothes, preferably jersey (t-shirt and legging type material, with a little stretch is best).
  • A snack and drink.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
