Rent a Studio
UPDATE April 2023
We sometimes have studio and storage spaces becoming available at Out of the Blue buildings. See our Available Studios page for more details and sign up to our Available Studios Mailing List for updates.
Studio space at the Drill Hall
We have studios/offices in The Out of the Blue Drill Hall in Dalmeny Street off Leith Walk and our other Creative Spaces. These are occupied by artists and creative businesses. The Out of the Blue Drill Hall is a thriving cultural hub and studios share a building with events, classes and the lovely Drill Hall Arts Café. All Out of the Blue sites are easily accessible by public transport.
If you are interested in renting one of our studios, or wish to be contacted regarding any future available studios, please sign up to our Available Studios Mailing List and you will be invited to the next available viewing.
Shared studio and workshop space at Abbeymount Studios
The facilities at Abbeymount Studios include purpose built workshops with tools and equipment for fashion and textile design, ceramics and printmaking. In our co-working spaces each resident artist has desk space to work from and to store materials.
If you would like to view Abbeymount Studios please contact Bob Giulanotti at bob@outoftheblue.org.uk.
If you attended the Abbeymount Studios viewings and wish to apply, please fill in the Abbeymount Studios Application Form.
Conditions of Licence
Artists have 24-hour access to their studios. After an initial period (usually three months) only one month’s notice is required from either party to end the contract. Out of the Blue believes that the best way to support artists, whose workload and therefore income may be unpredictable, is to offer the most flexible, low-commitment terms possible.
Conditions of licence include payment of a returnable deposit and payment of rent by standing order monthly and in advance.
Subletting and Sharing
Occasionally artists may choose to share their studio or sub-let for a short period. Shares tend to be organised by the artists themselves, although they must be agreed with Out of the Blue. Sometimes an artist will ask Out of the Blue to find a suitable sharer, in which case, this opportunity will be advertised to the studio mailing list and given to the person whom the artist feels is most suitable.
Artists may sub-let studios and this must be arranged through Out of the Blue. Again the place will be advertised to the mailing list and given to the person whom the artist feels is most suitable.
Allocation of Space
When studios become available they will be advertised to the mailing list in the first instance. There is no average waiting time, but in order to maximise your opportunity of finding a studio, we would recommend applying as early as possible and being as flexible as you can in terms of space requirements.
Please contact us if your address or contact details change; if we cannot contact you, we cannot offer you a studio.
