Pushing the boundaries of the Edinburgh scene

The Bongo Club is a nightclub, live venue and all-round artistic hub with a street-level-headed attitude and an international reputation.

Aims and Ambitions

The Bongo Club has always stuck vehemently to its mission of showcasing grassroots music. Hosting an eclectic range of events unlikely to be found elsewhere in Edinburgh, the Bongo Club has developed, grown and stayed true to an equally diverse audience.

History

The Bongo Club began life in 1996 in OOTB’s New Street Studios, which brought thousands of people to hundreds of live performances and club nights. After a spell at Moray House (2003-’13), a “Save the Bongo” campaign resulted in another move to the four-storey building beneath Edinburgh Central Library on the Cowgate.

What Happens Here

Truly independent, it puts the sounds of the underground and imaginative aspirations before the mighty dollar, encouraging the community to get involved and use the space to do its own thing: club events, live performances & gigs plus occasionally theatre, film screenings, rehearsals, conferences, meetings and even video/film production.

The Future

With almost thirty years under its belt already, the Bongo hopes to be around for another 30 and then some! Most clubs are lucky to last half as long….
