Out of the Blue Drill Hall is excited to host a ten day exhibition showcasing the work of over a dozen visual artists and makers along with a dozen jewellers, all created in our A-listed building in the heart of Leith.
Part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of Out of the Blue, work comes from a mix of residents creating illustration, photography, graphic design, painting, art therapy, poetry, glasswork and more.
Organised by resident photographer and visual artist Solen Collet, the exhibition HOME: A Residents' Showcase will run from Tuesday 10th to Friday 20th September from 10am - 5pm (not including Sunday). The space will be used in a unique way to create a home from home, with work displayed in our interactive living room and garden spaces. Attendees are welcome to take a seat on the sofa to read about residents' work. We hope the exhibition will make guests feel at home. Artist Felicity Inkpen is also creating an illustrative piece for visitors to share what home means to them.
We also have the following free entry evening events running in conjunction with the exhibition.
- Wednesday 11th September (6-8pm): Launch evening. Join us for a glass of wine and some music from resident DJs.
- Wednesday 18th September (6-8pm): Something a little different and joyful. We host a resident Performers’ Showcase event - with live acoustic music, aerial dance and drama. We also welcome our Leith neighbours, Woven Whisky, as they showcase a tasting of their Leith inspired 'Homemade' blend.
Organiser Solen comments, "We're keen to continue to build connections with the creative community of Leith and with this exhibition we're having fun as a collective finding new ways to share the exhibition space and to involve more of our neighbours too."
Out of the Blue Chief Executive Rob Hoon adds “Over the course of Out of the Blue’s 30 year history, hundreds of artists have had a studio home from home where they have created a huge range of artwork including paintings, graphic design, photography, glasswork, jewellery and more. In an extremely challenging time for communities and artists, we welcome all to come on in.”
