Explore the fascinating world of Risograph printing at Out of the Blueprint, and learn how to make your own 2-colour A3 risograph prints. The May Riso Workshop is sold out, but there are still spaces available on Saturdays 7th June and 12th July.
Thursday 22nd May marks 110 years since the Gretna train disaster, which killed over 200 men from the 1/7th Royal Scots (Leith battalion) based at the Dalmeny Street Drill Hall. To commemorate, The Royal Scots are hosting Gretna 110 - an exhibition, research room and film screening at the Drill Hall. The free exhibition runs from Monday 19th to Saturday 24th May, featuring a large selection of artefacts, photographs, documents and newspaper cuttings.
If you’re looking to learn a new skill or to have a taster of a new hobby, Leith Jewellery Studios and Remode Collective have a range of full and half-day workshops running throughout the month.
There will be Spring bargains aplenty at our monthly Flea Market on Saturday 31st May. Come and browse over 45 stalls packed with pre-loved clothes, jewellery and collectibles. Who knows what treasure you might find!
Throughout May, the Drill Hall Arts Cafe will be serving delicious home-made breakfasts, snacks and meals. They’ve also added some new Drill Hall Cafe Preserves, which you can buy to take home with you.
Over at Abbeymount Studios, fashion designer Jen Byrne will help you draft your own skirt block in her latest Pattern Drafting wokshop on Saturday 17th May. Meanwhile, artist Helen Miles is running an informal and creative Mosaic Introduction Day on Sunday 25th May where you’ll learn to make your own mosaic. The artists and makers at Abbeymount are also busy working on their next open studios event - more details to follow in the next newsletter!
