Both events are part of the 2024 Leith Creative Trail, an opportunity to discover and celebrate all the artistic happenings in the vibrant nooks of Leith.

Out of the Blue Abbeymount Studios (Easter Road) are delighted to be opening their doors to the public this Christmas for another exciting Open Studios Weekend (their second of the year) on Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December, 12noon - 5pm (free entry).

It’s a great chance to see the creative spaces at Abbeymount, meet the makers and browse a wide range of original artworks and gifts. Everything is handmade by local designers and makers here in their studios in the heart of Edinburgh. It’s the perfect opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done, or perhaps get an extra treat, while supporting local artists and makers.

With over 30 artists and makers taking part, there really is something for everyone, from fine art, paintings and illustration to ceramics, textiles and photography.

Participating artists include award-winning Edinburgh-based designer Judy R Clark, up-and-coming wildlife painter Kirsten Mirrey, ceramics designer Frances Priest and National Portrait Gallery Portrait Award finalist Robin Paine.

Over at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall on Dalmeny Street, the annual Winter Arts Markets will take place from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th December. A thriving annual market over the last 20 years, over 100 of our hand-picked local independent artists and makers will be selling their work over the three market days.

With stalls selling a wide range of goods from paintings, prints and homewares through to jewellery, textiles and ceramics, there’s a great choice on offer. Each market day will have a different selection of stallholders. Full details on the stallholders taking part can be found on the Out of the Blue website.

As well as our usual Saturday and Sunday markets, due to demand there will be an extra market on the Friday evening from 5pm – 9pm. A great chance to have a glass of mulled wine and do some early evening Christmas shopping.

Out of the Blue Chief Executive, Rob Hoon says, "Out of the Blue support artists to help Edinburgh thrive as a hotbed of creative activity and opportunities all year round. Providing space for artists to create and sell their work means they can earn a living, and the people of Edinburgh get to own the beautiful hand crafted fruits of the artists’ labour! Out of the Blue is delighted to bring you Abbeymount Open Studios and three Drill Hall winter markets
